≫ Earnest :: When Mark does something, he makes sure that it’s done and done well. If he can’t do it himself, he will demand or grab someone else to help. He's pretty sincere when it comes to work-related matters and will try his best to come to a decent solution.
≫ Creative :: Mark isn't or anything, but he’s a handy and innovative person. This is shown through his puppet (which he originally designed for one of his classes at the academy). He picked up his innovativeness when he was younger from his father in case supplies were short.
≫ Sensible :: He’s not sensitive, but sensible. He tries his best not to hurt others’ feelings despite being honest. Overall, he tries his best to read the situation. If he hurts someone’s feelings, then he will try his best to make amends--granted that he doesn't die from it.
≫ Reserved :: Mark’s polite, but not overly polite. To the very least, he likes to try his best to keep things in a professional manner. If he were to be rude, then it would be by using some form of sarcasm. However, this causes problems as he looks like he’s glaring menacingly when shy or nervous--particularly to the girls.
≫ Patient :: Mark’s not one to rush anything or anyone. However, it’s not like he takes his time either. He’ll wait for others and is loyal to his word if he says he’ll wait (so don’t keep him waiting...!!). However, if there’s too much going on, then his patience will certainly run thin (as some moments cause too many problems).
≫ Responsible :: He’s a responsible person--even if it’s for other people’s troubles. He’ll try his best to get his comrades out of trouble (by legal or physical means--mostly legal when they're docked) and is willing to negotiate with others. If he says he’ll do it, he’ll do it.
≫ Fastidious :: Mark can be a bit critical when it comes to certain things and will be a bit snarky when he’s annoyed. One of the things that flips his switch greatly is if Auria were to get overly damaged. He doesn't really want to repair the doll if it comes down to it (but he’s fine with up-keeping maintenance).
≫ Stubborn :: When it comes to fighting, Mark can be quite stubborn and may as well use his head literally. He may have average defense, but he’s the type of guy that just won’t give up (even if he’s down). Somehow, the same happens when he’s arguing.
≫ Tense :: Mark is always tense since he’s on a ship that has girls on it due to his gynophobia. He's still trying to get used to interacting with them despite being terrified. If it's socializing, he's fine, but he would prefer keeping a distance away.
≫ Absentminded :: He’s a bit absentminded when he doesn't need to focus. He doesn't pay attention to what’s in front of him sometimes or even forgets about wearing a jacket when at high elevations.

Mark grew up being an only child raised by his father for several years. This was because the day after Mark was born, his mother passed away from being unable to recover her own strength after giving birth to her first and only son. This gives Mark the incentive to stay alive in order to make his angel-mother proud to watch him grow up. Between Mark and his father, his father earned a decent amount of income, in charge of working on the giant clock that towered over their hometown. In fact, Mark actually considered working as his father’s apprentice after helping him with various jobs that involved the giant clock. Between the two of them, they lived comfortably that they could have been considered as middle-upper class if they didn't donate the money to local charities in order to help the town’s economy.

As years went on, Mark’s father did not want Mark to grow up without a mother―especially since he was almost upon his adolescent years. Thus, his father remarried, giving Mark a new mother and a new sister. To Mark’s surprise, because the marriage happened so fast that he found out that his father had been secretly dating women so as not to upset Mark. However, because their family grew, they were bumped down to middle class because Mark’s father was providing the main income for their family.

Mark’s step-mother was a wonderful woman, unlike the ones he’s heard in fairy tales. She doted on him and loved him as much as he were her own actual son. It made Mark happy since he had thought that his new mother was what he believed his own mother would react to him. Every now and then, he called his step-mother “mom” just because she was his second mother. However, Mark’s life wasn't always filled with happiness. Although his step-mother was different from the fairy tales, his step-sister was not.

His step-sister was a sadistic girl, hiding away at the shadows. The bullying was unknown to their parents, as she always managed to get away with her antics with her outwardly sweet demeanor. She teased him in private or in public in front of her friends. This bullying ranged from emotional to physical humiliation. Mark couldn't say anything to his parents, as they never believed that a young girl would harass a growing boy. The years of torture from his cruel sister and her friends had Mark develop a phobia towards girls.

When he was old enough, Mark enrolled himself into Ettaire Military Academy as a means of escape from his sister as well as learn to take care of himself. However, despite living so far away, he couldn't prevent his sister’s harassment that persisted through by mail and family visitations. The point of the academy wasn't just a means of escape, but it was also to further his studies so that he can find a path of his own rather than tread on the same path as his father.

At the academy, Mark studied and worked hard, trying to create a name or form a dream for himself. Although he was an all-around student, he had an affinity with crafting―specifically crafting specialized puppets. However, he had heard rumors that the academy would later send their top students to the militia as a way to advance them to the real world (or as experiment fodder which Mark concluded). Not wanting to take any more of the stresses from the academy or from his sister, Mark left the academy without another word in order to pursue a dream for himself.

Mark traveled to various towns, working various jobs. In one town, where the Embassy has docked, he was acting as dock leader's assistant (more like dock leader in the stead of his elderly boss) at the time when he met Ran and the Air Junkies. The strange girl was simply telling what seemed to be random tales of their adventures on and off the ship. Mark couldn't help but laugh at a few of them. Piqued by his amusement, Ran went up to him asking if he would like to join her crew. Sheepishly, Mark said that he wouldn't mind. However, before he could explain his personal circumstances Ran glomped the young man causing him to pass out due to his fear, only to be literally dragged onto the ship.

When Mark was attending Ettaire Military Academy, there was an assignment of making a form of distraction. For that assignment, Mark made a decoy--a movable doll with wires, controllable through a synth item. EMA found that such a prototype would have it's uses. Not as a decoy, but as a soldier. Thus, the puppet soldier development project came into being.

After many hours of work improving the doll, Auria became more definite as a female prototype in order to get over his fear of girls. After a few weeks, other prototypes were made but they ended up being faulty due to an unknown cause. It became clear that Auria was the only one fully-functional. After a year, the project had to be dropped. It was dropped mainly because Mark―the only one with full understanding of the puppet's workings―had left EMA.
